Abstract

The purpose of this studY was to test the microleakage of a compomer(Dyract" )according to configuration of enamel margin and acid etching or non-etching in the cavity.
Class V cavity preparations were made on the buccal surface of 30 extracted human molars. The occlusal margins were in enamel and the gingival margins were in root surfaces. Molars were randomly assigned to three groups(n=10). In the control group, cavity walls were treated with Prime & Bond 2.1 according to manufacture¢¥s directions and preparations were restored with Dyract. In the experimental group 1, cavity walls were etched with 32% phosphoric acid for 15 seconds and treatment of Prime & Bond 2.1 and restoration of preparations was same as control. In the experimental group 2, cavity margins were beveled with coarse diamond in enamel, etched for 15 seconds and other procedures were same as control.
The specimens were immmersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 24 hours. Five longitudinal sections were taken from each specimen and examined at X15-25 with a spectromicroscope. The extend of microleakage was measured and recorded at enamel and dentin margins.
The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests and compared differences between each group using Fisher¢¥s least significant differnce(LSD) method. The result were as follows
1. Experimental group 2 exhibited lower microleakage than control group and experimental group 1 at enamel margin(p<0.05), so bevel preparation and acid etching on enamel margin can decrease the microleakage of compomer.
2. Control group exhibited lower microleakage than experimental 1 and 2 groups at dentin margin, but there was not significantly difference(p<0.05) among all groups. The acid etching of dentin surface can increase the microleakage of compomer.
